Making Excellence Possible, Inc. (MEP) was founded in 2016. Eric Borden saw that children in various communities were experiencing some of the same struggles that he experienced growing up in rural Alabama. As a child, he prayed that someone would intervene on his family’s behalf. When no one did, he vowed that he would work hard to be the answer to a child’s prayers. Because of his passion, he identified areas of deficit and decided to focus on character development through mentorship, education, and economics.
His business acumen led him to partner with Robyn Williams, an educator who believed in his mission because it aligned with her desire to give back. She believes that if a society wants to see major change, that it starts with children. Working in urban school districts enabled her to see that so many were lagging behind in reading and math and did not have the support to overcome certain challenges. The target areas determined through their partnership are designed to fill in gaps to help children succeed.
